Originally opening as a movie house in the 1930's, the Gramercy Theatre functioned as a movie theater for the majority of its 85 year existence. At the turn of the century, however, it began showing Off-Broadway plays and was eventually purchased by Live Nation in 2006 to be made into a historic and intimate concert venue.
