history
Le Poisson Rouge (LPR) opened its doors in 2008 on the site of the historic Village Gate, a legendary venue that hosted iconic performances by artists such as Jimi Hendrix, Aretha Franklin, Duke Ellington, Patti Smith, and Velvet Underground. Founded by musicians David Handler and Justin Kantor, LPR was designed to be a multimedia art cabaret, committed to bridging genres and artistic disciplines. Besides their signature eclectic programming, over the past 16 years, the venue has been the home to the critically acclaimed NYC Winter JazzFest, their infamous '90s and '80s parties, and even drag bingo nights. With a staunch commitment to innovation and risk infusing every aspect of the venue, LPR continues the legacy of its storied location, celebrating the vibrant and ever-evolving music scene of New York City.
